In addition to Dolby Pro Logic decoding, the receiver offers two theater-simulation ambience modes: Theater 1, for the "feeling of a small movie theater with a seating capacity of 100," and Theater 2, like one holding 1,000 people. In surround mode, the receiver is rated to deliver 100 watts per channel to the front left, center, and right speakers and 100 watts total to the surround speakers power output in stereo mode is 120 watts per channel. But I know for a fact that it cannot convert an NTSC signal (60 Hz mode on PS2) coming in via S-video to a NTSC HDMI signal (the picture comes out black and white).Standing at the top of JVC's A/V receiver line is the RX-818V, a rather fully featured unit incorporating digital Dolby Pro Logic decoding circuitry. That was the gist of the reply I got.I have a feeling it is probably worth manually having a go to see if this the case or not. So I take that to mean that it cannot convert an NTSC signal coming in through component to an NTSC signal outputting through HDMI for example. What Gary B said (I think) the amp can't do is convert an NTSC signal from one source into NTSC on another type of output.
Similarly, if you connected your DVD player via RGB, the amp would correctly passthrough an NTSC signal through the amp's RGB output. So if you had a HDMI DVD player linked to the amp, it WOULD play a NTSC DVD correctly through the HDMI output. he basically said that this amp will "passthrough" any signal in its original format through the same type of input.

Gary B answered me on this in the JVC 26/32 DX7 LCD TV thread. I have the amp video output set to RGB and have the VCR video input set to RGB. However, I cannot get Freeview to appear on the VCR channel for recording, despite using the same method as before. The VCR works fine for playback and also for terrestrial TV recording. So, (a) SCART from TV EXT-2 to TV SCART input on amp and (b) SCART from VCR to VCR input on amp. I have now connected this stuff up via my RX-D701. Doing this would see Freeview appearing on the VCR (AV) channel on the TV. Using this method, I was able to record Freeview TV on my VCR by (a) making sure I had the right dubbing option chosen on the TV so that digital TV was routed to EXT-2 output and (b) selecting the appropriate AV input on the VCR. I connected my IDTV (JVC 32DX7) to my VCR (a fairly recent Panasonic model) using a SCART cable from the TV-link EXT-2 output on the TV. Now, prior to owning this funky piece of kit (i.e. Thanks again to all who answered my last query. Many thanks and apologies for the long post.

(2) If NTSC on my PS2 won't work in colour when passing through the receiver, will region 1 DVDs also play in black and white when using a multiregion DVD player? (I am thinking about the future here when I have a multiregion HDMI DVD/Bluray/HD DVD player and would want to use HDMI to supply receiver with digital pictures and sound) Does anyone here use region 1 DVDs through this receiver? (1) Do you guys think this is an issue with the receiver or with the TV? If it is the receiver, is there a setting I have not discovered yet which can fix this? When I have my PS2 connected directly to my TV it works fine in colour in 60Hz mode, so I know my TV can handle NTSC - but can the d701?Īlas the option to change the colour system (to Auto or NTSC) on my TV is greyed out on the HDMI channels, so I can't fix this that way. However, when I want to play in 60Hz mode (NTSC?), the picture is in black and white.

Now when playing the PS2 on normal 50Hz mode (PAL?) it works fine and the picture is smoothly transmitted to my TV in full colour. My d701 is connected to my TV (JVC 32DX7) via HDMI.
I have my PS2 connected to the rx-d701 via S-video and analog audio inputs. I have a slight issue at the moment on the video side. The USB wireless does what it says on the box and sonically is on the money. I have this receiver and am very impressed with it.
